About the system

The rack and pinion steering gear test bench performs performance, noise and durability tests on hydraulic and electric (C-, P-, R-EPS) steering gears. A servo motor drives the pinion and servo actuators load the rack ends to apply real road loads and road-profile iteration. EPS controller high-temperature tests, torque sensor performance, sensor board zero setting and EOL tests are also covered.

Technical scope

  • Input up to 200 Nm / 200 r/min
  • Rack load up to 25 kN
  • Assist 25 MPa
  • C-/P-/R-EPS
  • Noise 40–120 dB

Test functions and capabilities

  • Input torque vs. rack force, assist characteristics
  • Noise 40–120 dB and EPS reverse impact
  • Road-profile iteration, 5-axis dynamic option
  • Column EPS: torque, angle, speed; sine/triangle/trapezoid drive files, CSV import
  • EPS controller high-temperature, torque sensor and EOL tests
  • Impact test 10 ms @8 kN / 50 ms @18 kN
